Property Exchange Company (PEC) was formed in 1995 to facilitate tax-deferred exchanges of real and personal property. As a well respected member of a small but sophisticated community, PEC was the first Michigan member of the Federation of Exchange Accommodators. We are dedicated to providing our clients with accurate, responsive service.
A professional you can trust
Karen Mendelson, PEC’s founder, is a graduate of the University of Michigan Law School. During a career of practically 30 years in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she has served both as a trusted attorney and as President of PEC. Karen writes on various legal and exchange subjects, both for ICLE, Michigan’s continuing legal education provider, and the Michigan Bar Journal, and she has twice won the Michigan Bar Association's award for clear legal writing.
Please note that PEC is a separate corporation and not part of Karen Mendelson's legal practice. Ms. Mendelson does not give legal advice to parties to PEC exchanges. The discussion here is explanatory for potential parties to an exchange involving PEC as an intermediary, and you should seek independent advice from your own attorneys, accountants, or other advisors.
